FOURTH OF JULY CHECKLIST

Grill? Check. Summertime? Check. We’re making our 4th of July checklist. What are you cooking up this Independence Day? We’ve got a list of necessities to help you make this Independence Day the best one yet.

SIMPLE APPS

You’ve got quite the menu to plan so don’t take too much time worrying about the appetizers. Keep things simple and buy a few bags of chips, cut up some raw veggies, and make a good dip or too. Guacamole is a real crowd pleaser, salsa can be easily bought, and hummus will make everyone feel better about themselves. Try adding a few spoonfuls of mint pesto to your hummus for color and freshness.

THE MAIN MEAT

Slow cooked barbecue is without a doubt delicious. But save yourself the stress of long, hot hours by the grill and throw on some burgers. Nothing says America like a chargrilled hamburger. You can even marinate some chicken breasts for a couple hours and grill ‘em up for a white meat alternative.

BETTER TOPPINGS

If you’re going for the traditional burger option, get creative with the toppings. Whip up your own mayo, dress bright greens instead of iceberg, quick-pickle some cucumbers, caramelize those onions, and toast the buns with a little butter. See how to make it happen.

CLASSIC SIDES

Nothing beats ice cold watermelon or crispy cabbage slaw on a hot summer day. And don’t forget about potato salad. Double your batch of mayo and see the everyday potato salad transformed. We also love a bubbling homemade mac n’ cheese…but who doesn’t?

FESTIVE DESSERTS

There are few times a year where it makes sense to make an American flag cake. Dress up the classic chocolate cake and find your inner artist to pipe on those stars and stripes. You can also use strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream to create the same design and add a bright fruity pop.
